News items at our meeting on 29-Jan-25 included:

  • the deadline for voting in the BOC photo competition is this weekend (2-Feb);
  • a renewed appeal for a person or group to manage the catering on our Show day (29-Mar-25);
  • the next meeting will include a video link with Simon Pugh-Jones, formerly founder of the Writhlington School Orchid Project and now proprietor of Isle of Portland Orchids.

We then held our ‘Plant Clinic’, to which members brought their poorly plants for diagnosis by Bill Gardiner and Andy Gissing (our Chair and Vice-Chair respectively) and other experienced growers. Andy also told us how best to prepare plants in flower for maximum effect at our forthcoming Show on 29-Mar-25.

Carol Tweed won the Novices table with her Rhyncholaeliacattleya Kinmen Triumph ‘Exotic Treasure’. Bill Gardiner won the Winners table with his Lycaste virginalis.
